(Seguin) — Two Seguin High School seniors made their college football intentions known over the weekend.
On Saturday, offensive lineman Cooper Neumann announced on social media he will play football at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma while tight end Jackson Pond declared he will play at Sul Ross State in Alpine, Texas. The East Central Tigers compete as an NCAA Division II program. The Sul Ross Lobos are moving from Division III to Division II in 2024.
Neumann, a first team All-District 12-5A selection this past season, was named team Offensive MVP at the Seguin football banquet in December. He was named to the all-district second team as a junior in 2022. Neumann and teammate Evrin Contreras represented Seguin at the 2024 Hawaii Tiki Bowl in Honolulu on January 6th.
Pond was also a Second Team All-District 12-5A selection in both his junior and senior seasons. He caught 13 passes for 118 yards in nine games in the 2023 season for Seguin. In his junior season, Pond had 13 receptions for 170 yards and four receiving touchdowns in seven games played. During his sophomore campaign, Pond hauled in 13 catches for 126 yards.
Back on January 20th, senior running back John Jackson announced his college football commitment to UT-Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg. UT-RGV is a startup program lead by former Seguin head coach Travis Bush. The Vaqueros will take the field for their first season of competition in 2025.
Jackson was the Offensive MVP of District 12-5A this past season. The senior running back, who had 18 college football offers, established a new Seguin High School single-season program record with 1784 yards rushing. He averaged 8.7 yards per carry and led the Matadors with 17 touchdowns.
