(Georgetown) — The Texas Lutheran women’s basketball team wrapped up their five-game 2024 opening road trip by defeating Southwestern, 61-46, on the road Tuesday night, as the Bulldogs improved to 14-5 and 7-3 in SCAC play on the season.
Kayla Presley (Kyle/San Marcos) finished in double figures for the sixth time this season and fourth time in six games, finishing with 13 points and four steals. Juliana Tapia (San Antonio/O’Connor) finished with a career-high nine points while Davi’Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens) added eight points off the bench. Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds and added seven points and a game-high three assists.
The Bulldogs dominated the first quarter, opening the game on a 17-0 run and carrying a 23-7 lead into the second period.
The Bulldogs began to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring the Pirates (4-15, 3-7 SCAC) 18-7 in the period. The Bulldogs would lead by as many as 30 points in the period and carry a 41-14 lead into halftime.
The Pirates outscored Texas Lutheran 15-13 in the third quarter to cut two points off the Bulldogs halftime lead.
Texas Lutheran struggled in the fourth but would never relinquish their lead thanks to the cushion built in the first half.
The Bulldogs led for the entire game Tuesday for their seventh wire-to-wire victory this season. Every available player recorded minutes for the ninth time this season.
Texas Lutheran will be back in action Sunday, Jan. 28, as they return to Memorial Gymnasium for the first time in 2024 as they welcome Colorado College to Seguin.
