Area high school teams are back on the basketball courts today:
(Boerne) — The Seguin boys coming off a come-from-behind home win over Kerrville Tivy in their district opener are back at Goldie Harris Gym this afternoon.
The Mats got 28 points from senior John Jackson in a 61-59 victory over the Antlers on Saturday afternoon. Seguin will host San Antonio Wagner today. The Thunderbirds are 0-1 in District 26-5A after falling to Smithson Valley. The Matadors and Wagner tip at 1 p.m. at Goldie Harris.
(Bandera) — The Navarro Panthers will look to even their District 27-4A record at 1-1 when they travel to Bandera tonight. The Bulldogs are also 0-1 in district play. Tonight’s game tips off at 6:30 p.m. at Bandera High School.
(Marion) — And the Marion Bulldogs have the first week of the New Year off. Marion won the Johnson City Tournament last Friday, going 4-0 over two days. Richie Rayos, Braeden Fleming, Davian Lagunas & Jaiden Riley earned All-Tournament team selections for the Bulldogs in bringing home the title.
On the girls basketball courts:
(San Antonio) — The Seguin Lady Matadors are at San Antonio Wagner tonight. The Lady Mats won two of three games at the Weimer tournament to close out 2023. Tonight’s game tips off at 6:30 p.m. at Wagner High School.
(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs host Mathis in a non-district match-up this evening. Marion will host Randolph to open District 26-3A play on Friday and we’ll have that game on KWED. Tonight’s girls game between Marion and Mathis gets underway at 6:15 p.m. in Marion.
(Geronimo) — And the Navarro Runnin’ Lady Panthers are at home to host district rival Bandera. The Lady Panthers and Lady Bulldogs met last month in a non-district game on December 7th at the Devine Shootout Tournament with Bandera edging Navarro, 43-40. Lady Panther head coach Darrell Harborth says his team is looking forward to tonight’s rematch.
“They got us. So, we’re excited about it. We were a little undermanned maybe in that game,” Harborth said. “It’s a big game to move our district record to 3-1 and keep us in that playoff hunt.”
The Lady Panthers were without leading scorer Tegan Harborth in last month’s loss to Bandera. Navarro and Bandera will meet again tonight in a game you can hear on KWED. Our Lady Panther pregame will start at 6:20 this evening with tip off between the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Panthers at 6:30 p.m. tonight on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com.
