Seguin to host annual lighting of Central Park

(Seguin) – The 2023 Holiday Season officially gets underway tonight during the city of Seguin’s annual Holiday Stroll Parade and Lighting of Central Park.

The parade, which kicks off three nights of downtown holiday fun, begins at 6:30 pm at the intersection of College and Austin Streets. The Holiday Stroll Parade features entries from local and area businesses and organizations that are illuminated with lights to celebrate the upcoming holidays.

Leading the caravan of floats will be the Guadalupe County Fair which has been chosen as this year’s parade marshal.

The parade will travel south on Austin Street ending at the Seguin Coliseum parking lot.

Following the parade, the community is invited to gather in Central Park for the annual tree lighting by Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen. The mayor will also announce the winners of the parade and the Christmas Tree Decorating Contest.

Parade entries will be judged on lighting, creativity, and holiday spirit. Santa will also be available for photos in the downtown gazebo.

The city’s Holiday Stroll events continue on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. with the annual Holiday Sip n’ Stroll. Over 40 downtown businesses and organizations will be serving up their best cocoa recipe with the hopes of winning this year’s bragging rights.

Limited edition mugs will be available in the Central Park Band Stand for $15. This year’s mug features the St. James Catholic Church created by Artist Robin Walker.

The 2023 Mugs can be purchased in advance at Keepers Interiors and Furniture or at Gift and Gourmet. Mugs will be sold while supplies last. Food, music, and photos with Santa will again be available.

Activities wrap up on Saturday with the annual North Pole Stroll in Central Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Events include the Jingle Bell 5K, Children’s Shoebox Parade, holiday crafting, photos with Santa, music, and food.

A free Christmas Concert will also be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Palace Theatre. The Christmas Album Release Concert is being hosted by Take 2 featuring musicians Lupe Gonzales and Howard Hudiburg. The duo will be performing a wide collection of Christmas music.
