Blue Santa offering gift suggestions

KWED Radio to host annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive

(Seguin) — Blue Santa is giving you a couple of suggestions when buying a few toys and gifts for this year’s holiday season.

Officer Sarah Chilutti of the Seguin Police Department has been working very closely with Blue Santa to filter through gift ideas for kids ages 0 to 12 years old. The gifts collected will, of course, go to local families throughout Guadalupe County.

Chilutti says all sorts of toys are always a hit with children, but it’s the older ones, the kids ages 11-12, that folks sometimes have a bit of a problem shopping for. She says her suggestion this year is to look somewhere other than the toy aisle.

“There’s a lot of different options for the older ones, arts and crafts stuff. For your little fashionistas, they can do the bracelets and all that fun stuff. I don’t have kiddos myself so that was something I struggled with too because I have no idea what’s in or what’s not anymore but if you go to a place especially locally like Walmart for example, they have a ton of toys and things for your older ones in their holiday aisle that I found made phenomenel gifts for the older kids so if you walk around and check that out, there’s a ton of really good options in those aisles and lots of really cute stuff too because usually it’s the older girls that everyone struggles with. The boys, they kind of give them sports things or games but the girls a lot of people don’t know what to get,” said Chilutti.

Of course, those wanting to leave the shopping up to others can always donate cash. Chilutti says Blue Santa elves can ensure that the perfect gifts get into the hands of these very deserving girls and boys. She adds that wrapping paper and other supplies, such as tape and batteries, are always a welcome choice in helping Blue Santa with his deliveries.

Toy donations can be dropped off at various Blue Santa collection sites around town. Cash, checks, and toys will all be collected this Friday during the annual KWED Holiday Food and Toy Drive. Community members, leaders, and business representatives will all be on hand to help manage your donations directly from your vehicles. The KWED Holiday Food and Toy Drive will be held from 7 to 9 a.m.

Donations can always be dropped off in advance in the front lobby of KWED Radio located at 609 E. Court St. Doors will be open today and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Friday until 2 p.m.
