Navarro Lady Panthers earn All-District recognition in volleyball


(Geronimo) — The volleyball post-season all-district selections have been announced for District 27-4A and several Navarro Lady Panthers received recognition.

On the All-District First Team were Taylor Helms and Tegan Harborth. Helms led the Lady Panthers with 50 service aces and 516 kills during the 2023 season. The senior finished her career at Navarro as the all-time school leader in kills with 1268. Helms recently signed a letter of intent to play college volleyball at the Colorado School of Mines.

Harborth was the Lady Panther leader in digs with 511 on the season. The junior averaged 11.9 digs per match.

Second Team Lady Panthers were Morgan Helms and Kate Wozniak. Helms, a junior and Taylor’s younger sister, was second on the Lady Panthers with 299 kills during the 2023 campaign. Wozniak, also a junior, led Navarro with 672 assists.

And Rylee Smith and Sienna Kramer were recognized on the All-District Honorable Mention list. Smith, a sophomore, had 137 kills during the season. Kramer, a senior, came up with 113 digs.

Putting work in on the court and in the classroom on the Academic All-District team were Avery Sisak, Samantha Reyes, Hannah Durrett, Izzy Geipel, Smith, Kramer, Harborth, Wozniak and the Helms sisters. Earlier this month, Taylor Helms and Sienna Kramer were selected to the Texas High School Coaches Association All-State Academic teams. Helms was recognized on the First Team, while Kramer was named to the Second Team.

Navarro finished third in District 27-4A in the 2023 season going 8-4 in district and 26-16 overall. The Lady Panthers advanced to the UIL Class 4A Region IV Bi-District round and were led by coach Paige Poth.

The district champion Davenport Lady Wolves won the Class 4A state volleyball title on Saturday battling back from two sets down to win in five sets over Canyon Randall.
