(Seguin) — This week’s Saturday Topic program features a look at a project that may have done more than any other to shape the future of the city of Seguin.
The Schertz-Seguin Local Government Corporation turns 25 this year. In celebration of that milestone, we remember the work that created a new source of drinking water for the cities of Seguin and Schertz. Securing a new source of water has led to unprecedented growth in both communities.
SSLGC President Jack Hamlett and General Manager Andrew McBride join us for a look back at the water project and the amazing work that was done to provide a source of water that’s expected to serve this community and many others for generations to come.
Hamlett, who was Seguin’s city manager at the time, was one of the driving forces for the project when it started 25-years ago.
“We were one of the first to do something like this. I think, as somebody said, there was no template for us to follow. These two cities joined together and fortunately the (city) councils from those two cities had the foresight to get this going. We were able to bring them together and create this corporation,” said Hamlett.

Part two of our program features a look at the Guadalupe County Child Welfare Board’s Ugliest Christmas Sweater Dinner. The board works to help children who have been removed from their home by the state. The big fundraiser is coming up on Friday, December 8 at the Texas Theatre, and Board Member Joe Pease says it will be a fun time for a great cause.
“Well, it’s an Ugly Sweater Party, so obviously bring your ugly sweater. We also have a silent auction, food and fun, and we’ll have live entertainment. It will be a magician this year, which is not normal compared to the Christmas carolers and other people that we’ve had in the past. So, it should be a lot of fun,” said Pease.
