(Seguin) — A Thanksgiving tradition continues this weekend at Life Changing Church. The local church is again inviting families over for its Sunday service, a free turkey dinner plus the chance to win a Thanksgiving basket.
Sister Pamela Wheeler says this remains one of the most important outreach efforts for the church.
“It’s the same format. ‘Jesus. Others.’ That’s our main mission goal, our statement, our motto for our community. It’s free. Come. Show up. You have to be there to win. Enjoy service and then of course, we serve dinner, a Thanksgiving dinner afterwards. You enter the drawing and then, we pull your name. If we pull your name, you win a Thanksgiving basket including a turkey,” said Wheeler.
Wheeler says the Thanksgiving service is more than just ensuring a holiday meal. She says it’s about meeting the needs of the individual.
“One of the reasons why it is so important to me is because this is how I came to the church. This is how I found my walk and my purpose in service. This is my community. This is where my passion lies is to help people where I came from — helping me feed my family and finding a purpose in my life to better myself. I am now a nursing student in pediatric oncology and I just want to see others succeed to lead a life that maybe that there is hope that somebody does care about them — whether they eat — even if they just need somebody to talk to — that we are there. Our little humble church is there for them. We care. We love them. We don’t care what they do. We don’t care where they come from. We just want to help,” said Wheeler.
The Thanksgiving Service gets underway at 2 p.m. Sunday. Registration will be held from 12:45 to 1:55 p.m. at the church located at 842 E. Pine St. Those needing a ride to the event are asked to call 830-463-9637. Arrangements for transportation are encouraged before 11:30 a.m.
