(Converse) — The Jourdanton Indians used a powerful running attack in the second half to break open a tie game at halftime and run away from the Marion Bulldogs, 35-14 in the Bi-District round of the Class 3A playoffs at a rainy Judson ISD Stadium on Thursday night.

Down 7-0 late in the second quarter, the Bulldogs got an interception from safety Gavin Soefje that lead to Marion’s first score. Quarterback Bo Stahl weaved through the Indian defense for a 16-yard rushing TD to get the Bulldogs on the board as the teams went into the locker room with the score tied at 7.

Jourdanton would score on their first three possessions in the second half to take a 28-7 lead early in the fourth quarter. Indian quarterback Matthew Hicks ran for two scores and threw for another to give Jourdanton the three touchdown lead.

The Bulldogs would get their final score of the night on a dazzling hook-and-lateral play. Chase Hallmark caught a pass from Stahl near the left sideline and lateraled the ball back to a streaking Christian Sanchez who sprinted down field in front of the Jourdanton bench for a 64-yard touchdown to make the score 28-14.

Jourdanton would intercept Stahl on Marion’s next possession. The Indians returned the ball down to the one-yard line and scored one more time with a little over five minutes left in the game to close the scoring on the night.

Stahl finished 13 of 21 for 122 yards. The senior also ran for 51 yards and a touchdown. Christian Sanchez had 10 rushes for 66 yards and Hadley Mote had a phenomenal game playing two ways for the Bulldogs. The junior had 34 yards receiving on offense and he made 15 tackles from his linebacker position on defense. Mote extended his Marion school single season tackle record to 141 on the year.

The Bulldogs finish their season at 5-6. The 11-0 Indians move on in UIL playoffs to face Edna in the next round.

There’s more high school playoff football tonight.

(San Antonio) — The Navarro Panthers and the Young Men’s Leadership Academy Lions meet in the Class 4A Bi-District round tonight at Alamo Stadium

Navarro finished in second place in District 13-4A, one game behind unbeaten Wimberley. The Lions were the third place team in District 14-4A.

Navarro head coach Rod Blount has lead the Panthers into the playoffs in each of his six years. Navarro has made it at least three rounds deep into the postseason in each of Blount’s first five seasons at the helm. Blount says the hard work of his players and staff along with support from parents has a lot to do with Navarro’s success.

“We’re blessed to be in a great place (where) excellence is the expectation. Kids are willing to work to keep that tradition here,” Blount said. “Parents allow us to work them and support us. We’ve been blessed with a great coaching staff and great kids. They’ve gone out and done well and we’re looking to keep building on that and get stronger each year.”

Navarro running back Antwoin Mebane will be a player to watch tonight. He comes into the playoffs at the top of his game. The senior ran for a 65-yard score last week against Manor New Tech. Two weeks ago against Austin Achieve, he had two 90-plus yard rushing TD’s including a state record 99-yard touchdown.

Tonight’s Bi-District playoff between Navarro and YMLA will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. And we’ll have all the action for you on KWED. Our coverage starts with the Panther pregame where we’ll talk more with coach Blount starting at 7 p.m. this evening here on AM 1580  and streaming at SeguinToday.com.
