High school volleyball: Seguin players recognized on 2023 All-District team, Navarro's Helms to sign college letter of intent

(Seguin) – The Seguin High School volleyball team placed six athletes on the 26-5A All-District awards list for their work on the court during the 2023 season.

Senior outside hitter Keighly Dailey and senior defensive setter Alexa Lara were named to the All-District Second Team. Dailey lead the Lady Mats with 384 kills and was second on the team with a 33.7 kill percentage. Lara was Seguin’s leader in digs with 585 and service aces with 60.

Junior setter Karina Lerma, sophomore setter Gisele Morales, senior middle blocker Zoe Seldon and senior outside hitter Lizzie Suarez were recognized on the district Honorable mention list.

And a host of Lady Matadors were named to the district’s academic honor roll. Elli Anderson, Ayla Arcos, Karsyn Ross, Ily Stamm, Britlyn Walls, Rebeka Wilke, team managers Chloe Decrevel and Kallyn Goodwin along with Dailey, Lara, Lerma, Morales, Seldon and Suarez were named to the Academic All-District team.

(Geronimo) — And over in Geronimo, Navarro volleyball star Taylor Helms will announce her college intentions at a signing day at Navarro High School on Monday morning. Helms will sign on the dotted line with Colorado School of Mines.

Helms, a three year starter for the Lady Panthers, set the Navarro school record for most career kills with 1,268. She also achieved the Navarro school record for most kills in a season with 552. The senior excels in the classroom as well where she is currently one of the top in her class with a 101.566 GPA.

The signing day for Taylor Helms will take place on Monday at 9:45 am at the Navarro High School Event Center.
