(Seguin) — The Seguin Matadors will wrap their regular season with the final game of 2023 at Matador Stadium tonight.

Seguin hosts Smithson Valley. The Rangers are looking to complete a perfect District 12-5A season. Smithson Valley sits in first place in the district with a 6-0 record.

The Matadors are 3-3 and in fifth place in district. Running back John Jackson already has the school single season rushing record. The senior is 287 yards shy of becoming the only Seguin player to rush for 2,000 yards in a season.

Tonight is Senior Night at Seguin High School and Matador head coach Craig Dailey says his seniors not only represent Seguin on the football field, but they have also served well in the community.

“The community service they’ve put in is tremendous. From what they’re doing in the classroom to their on the field success, everything doesn’t come down to the wins and losses,” Dailey said. “You’re gonna be very impressed when these guys graduate. (With) where they’re going, they’re gonna be very successful in life.”

Tonight’s game between Seguin and Smithson Valley kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Matador Stadium. We’ll have all the play by play action on KWED.

In other games for area high school teams:

(Manor) — The Navarro Panthers will finish their regular season tonight at Manor New Tech.

Navarro is 3-1 and in second place in District 13-4A. The Panthers clinched a playoff berth a week ago with a win over Austin Achieve. The Titans are 1-3 in the district season.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. tonight in Manor.

(Luling) — The Marion Bulldogs will look to nail down the fourth and final playoff spot in District 13-3A tonight against the Luling Eagles.

The Bulldogs are currently tied for fourth place in the district with Llano, but Marion holds the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Yellowjackets. Luling is winless through five games in district play.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Luling High School.

We’ve got all the teams covered tonight on KWED. Our high school football Friday night coverage starts at 6:45 p.m with the Navarro Panther report where we’ll visit with Navarro head coach Rod Blount. That will be followed by the Marion Bulldog report with Marion head coach Ryne Miller.

Then we’ll head to Matador Stadium for our Seguin Matador pre-game show where we’ll talk more with Seguin coach Craig Dailey inside the Matador Report. Again it all starts at 6:45 p.m. on AM 1580 and streaming online worldwide at SeguinToday.com.
