(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers clinched a playoff berth with an easy 63-0 win over Austin Achieve on Navarro High School Senior Night at Erwin-Lee Field in Geronimo on Friday night.
Panther running back Antwoin Mebane set a program record and tied a state record with a 99-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The run would be the first of two 90-yard plus runs for the senior. Mebane would go 94 yards on another rushing score for the Panthers.
Senior quarterback Colton Shuelke would throw for a pair of scores. One a 57-yard pass to Montgomery Elder and another on a 45-yard connection with Mack Berry. Austin Davidson and Gabriel Rangel hooked up on a 68-yard touchdown pass. And senior running back Nicholas Schwarzlose got loose a 67-yard TD run as Navarro raced out to a 49-0 lead after the first half.
Jesse James Waz and Davidson would add rushing touchdowns out of the Panther slot-t attack in the second half to complete Navarro’s offensive output on the night.
Defensively, Rangel and Davidson had interceptions while Ethan Borchardt had two picks on the evening. The win was the first shutout of the year for the Panther defense.
Navarro moved to 3-1 in District 13-4A. The Panthers are second place in the district, one game behind unbeaten Wimberley heading into the final game of the regular season.
The Panthers will play at Manor New Tech this coming Friday. Wimberley will play at Austin Achieve. Navarro and New Tech will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. this Friday in Manor.
