Marion and Navarro football teams to honor seniors tonight; Bulldogs game to be broadcast on KWED

Marion High School X

(Marion) — The Marion Bulldogs can be heard on KWED tonight. Marion will host San Antonio Cole in a pivotal District 13-3A match-up at Veterans Stadium on the Marion High School campus.

Marion is 2-2 in district and currently holding down the fourth and final playoff spot after beating Ingram Moore last Friday. The Cougars are in a tie for second place with Blanco after coming up with a big win over first place Randolph last week.

It’s also Senior Night in Marion and Marion head coach Ryne Miller says his 15 seniors have brought great leadership to the Bulldog football program.

“They’ve committed to the cause. They’ve committed to do something bigger than the team and they just do a great job of leading,” Miller said. “One thing we’ve seen a big difference in this year is the just the leadership of our seniors. Especially during the bye week, they’ve done a great job of really leading this team and getting where we need to be. They started January 1st. All 15 seniors said this is gonna be the year we’re gonna get to the playoffs and make a run. They’ve worked their tails off since.

“Kudos to all 15 seniors. They’re a big part of this program and we’re excited for the season we’re having right now. But we also want to make sure we go out with a win tonight on Senior Night in the last regular season game at Veterans. I know it’s gonna be special for those guys and I can’t say enough about them.”

The Bulldogs and Cougars kick things off at 7 p.m. tonight at Veterans Stadium in Marion and we’ll have all the play-by-play action for you on KWED. Our pregame coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. with the Navarro Panther report and then we’ll go live to Marion High School and have more with coach Miller on the Bulldog report during our Bulldog pregame show. It all starts 6:30 p.m. tonight on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com.

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers are in Geronimo tonight for Senior Night at Erwin-Lee Field as they host the Austin Achieve Polar Bears.

Navarro will look to get back in the win column this week after suffering their first District 13-4A loss last week to Class 4A Division II 5th-ranked Wimberley. The Panthers are 2-1 in district with two games left to play. Achieve is still looking for their first district win.

Navarro seniors will be recognized in front of the home crowd tonight and Panther head coach Rod Blount says seniors like Mack Berry, Antwoin Mebane, Landun Taylor and others have been instrumental in continuing the Navarro winning tradition.

“Matt Richardson is another one, Diego Chapa, also who have been on varsity for three years and doing great things for us.  All the way through this class, they’re solid guys,” Blount said. “Houston Berry has come a long way. Xavier Cropper has been key for us.

“Knox Gallini is an undersized guy who plays on both sides of the line and plays with every bit of heart that he has. Thor Jensen gives everything he has for us and makes our team better. Colton Schuelke has come up big for us. Those seniors keep the tradition alive and doing great things and keeping our program going in the right direction.”

Austin Achieve and Navarro will kick off at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Geronimo.
