Marion earns playoff 2nd seed with win on Senior Night


(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs clinched the 2nd playoff spot in District 26-3A with a 25-19, 25-15, 24-26, 25-19 victory over the Cole Lady Cougars in Marion on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs were lead by senior Kamryn Garza who had 13 kills on senior night at Marion High School. Sophomore Emily Sampson had 10 kills and fellow sophomore Ellie Parker had five aces. Parker also had 24 digs.

Marion head coach Melissa Mitchell Schuetz talked about her sophomores coming up big on senior night.

“I’m so proud of them and super excited to see them grow everyday and they experience they’re getting off the court with these great seniors,” Mitchell Schuetz said. “And I’m expecting them to do big things now that they’re gonna be the upper classman. So, I’m very grateful that they have the time with the seniors that we have right now.”

Senior Kacee McLendon had 26 assists for the Lady Bulldogs. The setter was recognized for reaching 1650 assists in her high school career prior to Tuesday night’s match. Bristin Birdwell tied Parker with a team-high 24 digs.

The Lady Bulldogs will play in the UIL Class 3A Bi-District round this coming Monday. Marion will match up with the Industrial Cobras. The match will take place in Karnes City.

(Spring Branch) — The Seguin Lady Matadors fell on the road to the Smithson Valley Lady Rangers in their final match of the 20-23 season on Tuesday night, 25-21, 25-13, 25-14.

Keighly Dailey lead the Lady Mats with 10 kills, Gisele Morales had 14 assists and Alexa Lara came up with 20 digs. Seguin finished the season in 5th place in District 26-5A with a 5-9 record.
