(Geronimo) — The 5th-ranked team in Class 4A will be in Geronimo Friday night when the Navarro Panthers host Wimberley at Erwin-Lee Field.
Both teams are 2-0 in District 13-4A. The Panthers pummeled Jarrell 64-14 on the road last week to earn their second district victory of the season. Jacob Arias had a 60-yard fumble return for a touchdown against the Cougars. And not to be outdone, Nick Schwarlose ran back a 98-yard scoop and score for the Panther defense.
Wimberley beat Jarrell 49-13 on the road two weeks ago. The Texans are unbeaten through seven games on the season.
Wimberley is the 3rd top-ten team to come to Geronimo this season after Cuero and La Vernia and Panther head coach Rod Blount says the stands will be packed Friday night for the big rivalry match-up.
“We expect both sides to be packed, standing-room only, people along the fence,” Blount said. “It doesn’t get any better than that. Erwin-Lee is a special place. We expect it to be rockin’. We expect to put on a great game.”
Kickoff between Navarro and Wimberley is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday night at Erwin-Lee Field is Geronimo.
(Ingram) — In District 13-3A, the Marion Bulldogs have a pivotal road match-up with the Ingram-Moore Warriors on Friday night.
Both teams are 1-2 in district, just a half-game out of the fourth and final playoff spot in the district. The Warriors fell to Cole and Randolph in district play while earning a victory over Luling. The Bulldogs fell to the district’s top two teams in Randolph and Blanco before beating Llano in Marion last week.
Bulldog quarterback Bo Stahl scored the game winning touchdown on a nine-yard run late in last week’s game. The senior ran for 152 yards in the victory. Marion head coach Ryne Miller said the Bulldog offensive line has been key in opening holes for their running game.
“We’ve got a bunch of guys that dress out and play, Justin DeHoyos, Keagan Taylor, Kase Kelso. A bunch of these guys just stepped up and really brought some different things with Michael Purcell stepping up too,” Miller said. “They’ve done a great job. It’s just fun to watch. Garrett Mann has really stepped up, too. I’m proud of those guys.”
Friday night’s game between Ingram-Moore and Marion kicks off at 7 p.m. in Ingram. We’ll talk more with Navarro coach Rod Blount and Marion coach Ryne Miller during our High School Football Friday night coverage on KWED.
