Navarro and Marion pick up key district wins on the gridiron


(Jarrell) — The Navarro Panthers remain in a tie a top Distict 13-4A after blasting Jarrell on the road this past Friday, 64-14.

Kaden Guerra and Antwoin Mebane each had a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Panthers. Austin Davidson, Mason Harvey and Diego Chapa all ran for scores.

Nick Schwarzlose ran back a 98-yard fumble return for a TD on defense and he ran for a score on offense. Also on defense, Ryan Tatom and Mack Berry had interceptions and Jacob Arias scored on a 60-yard fumble return.

The Panthers moved to 2-0 in District 13-4A. Navarro will host Class 4A 5th-ranked Wimberley in a first place district showdown this Friday in Geronimo. Both teams are 2-0 in district. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Erwin-Lee Field.

(Marion) — And Marion took down Llano at home, 28-21 to gain their first District 13-3A win.

Bulldog quarterback Bo Stahl scored on a nine-yard touchdown run with a three minutes to go in the ball game to break a 21-all tie. And Aiden Batey intercepted a pass on the next Yellowjacket possession with less than a minute left in the game to preserve the victory for Marion.

Stahl accounted for three touchdowns on the night, throwing for one and running for two. The senior lead the Bulldogs with 152 yards on the ground while throwing 131 yards.

For the Marion defense, Jaiden Riley recovered a fumble and Chase Hallmark picked off two Llano passes.

The Bulldogs are 1-2 in district following the victory. Marion is at Ingram-Moore this Friday. Both teams are 1-2 in district, a half-game out of the fourth and final playoff spot. The game will kick off at 7 p.m.
