High school volleyball: Navarro falls to 3rd-ranked Davenport while Seguin and Marion earn wins

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Lady Panthers jumped on the 3rd-ranked team in Class 4A early but the Davenport Lady Wolves showed why they’re one of the top teams in the state in taking down Navarro in four sets, 11-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-23 on Tuesday night in Geronimo.

“I would argue they are one of the best teams in the region,” Navarro head coach Paige Poth said about Davenport after the match. “So our fight tonight was exactly where it needed to be especially going into playoffs. I was very proud of the girls. They came out starting and that’s been one of the areas we’ve had to work on – starting a game. And they came out and started a game and I was very impressed with them.”

The Lady Wolves improved 37-4 overall on the season. Davenport is 9-0 in District 27-4A play.

Navarro was lead by senior Taylor Helms who had 19 kills on the evening. Kate Wozniak, Brooklyn Fox and Taylor’s sister Morgan were active at the net on the night coming up with a number of blocks and kills. Avary Sisak was proficient in setting up her hitters coming up with numerous assists and Tegan Harborth was busy on the back line coming up with several digs.

Navarro is 6-3 in District 27-4A. The Lady Panthers are one game behind second place Wimberley.

Navarro has three more games left in the regular season. The Lady Panthers play at Bandera on Friday night. They will wrap their season next Friday with a home match against Wimberley.

(Seguin) — The Seguin Lady Matadors got a straight sets win over Veterans Memorial on senior night at Goldie Harris Gym on Tuesday, winning 25-21, 25-21, 29-27.

Senior Keighly Dailey lead the Lady Mats with 15 kills and four aces. Senior Alexa Lara had 21 digs and sophomore Gisele Morales had 30 assists.

The Lady Matadors evened their District 26-5A record at 5-5. Seguin is back home at Goldie Harris on Friday to host Pieper.

(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs took down Luling at home Tuesday night 25-12, 25-19, 24-26, 25-9 in a District 26-3A match-up.

The Lady Bulldogs were lead by Kamryn Garza and Jaida Rideaux who each had eight kills. Kacee McLendon added 26 assists and five aces. Bristin Birdwell had 9 digs.

Marion hosts Great Hearts Monte Vista for senior night this coming Friday night at Marion High School.

The Navarro Lady Panthers are hosting the #3 team in Class 4A, the Davenport Lady Wolves tonight in Geronimo!
