Lady Matadors, Lady Panthers and Lady Bulldogs all pick up district volleyball wins on Tuesday

Seguin senior Lizzie Suarez (#6) smashes home a kill against San Antonio Wagner at Goldie Harris Gym on October 3, 2023.

(Seguin) — The Seguin Lady Matadors got a much needed district win on Tuesday night with a straight sets victory over San Antonio Wagner 25-16, 25-12, 25-8 at Goldie Harris Gym.

Middle blocker Zoe Seldon was active on the evening finishing second on the team with seven kills and leading the Lady Mats with four blocks. After the match, Seguin head coach Ashley Farris talked about how Seldon has improved her game during her senior year.

“She’s very hard on herself,” Farris said. “But she’s definitely doing much, much better because she wants to leave a legacy for these younger middle (blockers). We have two freshman middles right behind her on the team. And she knows how important she to them. So, she’s doing an excellent job for us.”

Senior Keighly Dailey had another double-double for Seguin in the win with 10 kills and 11 digs. Setter Gisele Morales lead the Lady Mats with 17 assists. And Alexa Lara came up with 16 digs.

With the win, the Lady Matadors evened their District 26-5A record at 4-4 at the start of the second half of the district season. Seguin will be in the Hill Country along with the football team on Friday night to take on Boerne Champion. The Lady Mats swept the Lady Chargers at Goldie Harris in the first round of district play.
