(Seguin) – A recent traffic stop in Guadalupe County resulted in the seizure of more than $1.2 million in drugs.
Narcotics investigators with the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office say the incident occurred just before noon on Friday, Sept. 15. They say Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Sergeant Dustin Crawford conducted the traffic stop on a 2013 Ford F150 on Interstate 10 east bound near the 618-mile marker.
They say while speaking with the driver, Sergeant Crawford observed criminal indicators consistent with drug trafficking.
It was then that Sergeant Crawford deployed his K-9 partner Eddie for an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted him to the odor of narcotics.
While searching the vehicle, Sgt. Crawford located a compartment in the roof of the camper shell covering the bed of the pickup truck. Once the compartment was opened, they reported 11.4 kilograms of Clandestinely produced Fentanyl pills and 38.85 kilograms of suspected Fentanyl powder.
The exact value of the seized drugs was $1,256,250.
The driver, Ruben Martinez-Martinez, 20, of Eagle Pass was taken into custody. Martinez was transported to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office where he was later released to the DEA, (Drug Enforcement Administration) for federal prosecution.
