(Georgetown) — The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs return to the site of a last second victory in 2022 when they head to Georgetown to take on the Southwestern Pirates this Saturday evening.
The last time the Bulldogs were up in Georgetown, they came back from a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to steal a 21-17 road win over the Pirates in November of last year. TLU running back Jacob Forton (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) took a direct snap out of the Wildcat formation – to score with 14 seconds remaining to win the game.
Texas Luthern head coach Neil LaHue says the sting of that loss will likely be on the minds of the Pirates when the teams meet this Saturday.
“I expect that they’ll be thinking about that. That they let one get away and now we gotta go back to their place again, two years in a row,” LaHue said. “I kinda consider Southwestern a little bit of a rival because we go for a lot of the same kids in some of the areas (of) Central Texas, San Antonio, those kind of areas. We fight for kids in the recruiting battle. So, it’s a big game for us and I’m sure it is for them as well.”
The former American Southwest Conference foes will be looking for their first wins of the season after coming off long road trip losses in their first games last week. The Pirates were in California where they fell to Cal Lutheran 41-35.
TLU was up in Wisconsin where D-III 21st-ranked Wisconsin-Ohskosh took down the Bulldogs 48-31. Texas Lutheran wide receiver Jacob Wallace (Marion/Marion) had three catches for 68 yards and two touchdowns in his TLU debut while Forton totaled 138 all-purpose yards and a touchdown as the Bulldogs came up short in their 2023 season opener.
Texas Lutheran and Southwestern kickoff at 7 p.m. Saturday evening in Georgetown. You’ll hear the game on KWED. We’ll talk more with coach LaHue on Saturday during our Bulldog pregame show starting at 6:30 p.m. on AM 1580 and streaming online at TLUBulldogs.com.
