More grown-up fun now available in Seguin

Grand opening events held for Sips-N-Gulps, Johnny Pickles Distillery

(Seguin) — Looking for a good place to have a drink or two with friends, family or co-workers? If so, there are more options now available to you in the city of Seguin.  Two more nightspots opened their doors over the Labor Day weekend, and folks turned out in a big way to welcome each one to town.

Sips & Gulps Wine Bar officially opened its doors on Friday at 501 N. Austin St., next door to the Texas Theater. Then on Saturday, Johnny Pickles Distillery held its grand opening event at its location in the old Seguin fire station, located at 1711 N. Austin St.

Both bring something new to Seguin, and they represent the latest investments being made in what has become one of the fastest growing communities in state. Grand opening ceremonies where held for both, with the owners welcoming guest to their newly opened businesses.

Sips & Gulps owner Kelly Follis says they are so excited to finally be open to the public.

“Our vision for this, is just community. People need places to come and be together. We just wanted you to feel comfortable and we wanted a place that you would feel welcomed — whoever you are. We want you to feel like you have some time to relax and unwind. We want this to be about community, so we have community food trucks here. We are going to have a different food truck every Friday. On Thursdays, we’ll have as many local or area entertainers as I can get on Thursday and sometimes on Sundays,” said Follis.

The new spot in downtown Seguin, even got a blessing from Father Stephen Shortess, of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, who jokingly said it was a challenge coming up with just the right blessing for a wine bar.

“As we gather in this wine bar, we remember the Wedding at Cana, where you turned water into wine and revealed your glory to all. May this new wine for the community of Seguin be a sign of joy and celebration (and) a reminder of your abundant blessings. May all who gather here find fellowship and friendship, and experience family together. And may your love flow freely among us. Bless this wine bar and all who enter here. May it be a place of hospitality and grace,” said Shortess in his prayer.

The grand opening celebration at Johnny Pickles also included live music, food, market vendors and more for people that attended its event on Saturday.
