(Seguin) — The New Braunfels Unicorns started fast and kept the pedal on the gas in the first half in taking down the Seguin Matadors 45-22 in the Guadalupe River Bowl on Saturday night at Matador Stadium.
The Unicorns built a 35-6 lead at the half thanks in large part to their passing game. New Braunfels quarterback Leighton Adams went 15-17 for 209 yards and four touchdowns in the game’s first 24 minutes. Unicorn receiver Lance Beeghley caught 6 passes for 100 yards and 2 TD’s all in the first half.
The Matadors would score 16 points in the fourth quarter on a pair of touchdowns. Senior running back John Jackson burst through the line and sprinted to the end-zone on a dazzling 77-yard touchdown run. And wide-out Nik Henry would haul in a 27-yard TD pass down the right sideline from quarterback Corey Dailey. Jackson finished the night with 240 yards on the ground on 27 carries with two scores.
Seguin drops to 0-2 on the young season. The Matadors will host Laredo United this coming Friday. The Longhorns are 1-1 on the season after beating San Antonio Marshall 34-7 last Thursday.

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers fell for the first time this season with a 35-7 defeat at home to the Class 4A fourth-ranked Cuero Gobblers on Friday night.
The Panthers got interceptions from Landun Taylor and Gabe Rangel in the first half, but could not put any points on the board as Cuero took a 14-0 lead at the half. Gobbler quarterback Mason Notaro threw two touchdown passes in the first half, finishing the game with five passing scores.
Rangel started the second half with an 89-yard kickoff return for a score to cut the lead in half. Cuero would answer with a TD on the next drive and add two more scores in the 4th quarter to close out the scoring.
Navarro will hit the road for the first time on the season this coming Friday at Smithville. Both teams are 1-1. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Smithville.
(Natalia) — And the Marion Bulldogs got their first win of the season blowing out Natalia 28-6 on the road Friday night.
Marion quarterback Bo Stahl threw for 139 yards. Stahl also ran for 187 yards including three rushing scores.
On defense, linebacker Broc Birdwell had seven tackles including three for loss. Justin Dehoyos, Keagan Taylor and Garrett Mann each had sacks for the Bulldogs and Jaiden Riley had an interception.
Marion will play at home at Veterans Stadium for the first time this season this coming Friday night against the Gonzales Apaches. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
