(Marion) — It was a straight sets victory for the Marion Lady Bulldog volleyball team at their 2023 season home opener on Tuesday as they took down Uvalde 25-15, 25-4, 25-11.
Senior hitters Kamryn Garza and Kylie Balderas lead the way with a combined 20 kills on the night. Marion head coach Melissa Mitchell-Schuetz talked about how the pair worked in the off-season to improve their games.
“I’m super-excited for them. They’ve worked so hard over the summer in the weight room and on the track, and it shows,” Mitchell-Schuetz said. “They got in some club work and so they got in a lot of reps over the summer. I get goosebumps thinking about them and how far they’ve come and how far they’re gonna go. The key is just keeping them healthy.”
Middle hitter Madi Love was dominant at the net for the Lady Bulldogs defensively tallying four blocks on the night. Setter Kacee McLendon was efficient setting up her teammates with 13 assists.
Marion improves to 4-3 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs will head to Bay City on Thursday to compete at the Tournament On the Bay.
(Cibolo) — The Seguin Lady Matadors earned a hard fought victory on the road at Steele High School with a marathon 25-16, 25-17, 14-25, 21-25, 23-21 win over the Lady Knights on Tuesday night. The victory was the third straight for the Lady Mats.
Alexa Lara lead Seguin with 32 digs while Keighly Dailey added 24 digs and 18 kills. Lizzie Suarez contributed with 16 kills and 17 digs.
The Lady Matadors will next compete in the Bastrop volleyball tournament. That tournament starts on Thursday at Bastrop High School.
(Schertz) — And Navarro was defeated for only the second time on the season on Tuesday as the UIL Class 4A Lady Panthers dropped a 25-10, 25-22, 25-20 decision to Class 6A Clemens. Navarro saw their seven-match winning streak snapped falling to 8-2 on the season.
The Lady Panthers will join the Seguin Lady Matadors in Bastrop on Thursday at the Bastrop tournament.
The Marion Lady Bulldogs are at home for the first time this season taking on the Uvalde Lobos!
