Navarro volleyball team splits first two home matches

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Lady Panthers split their first two home matches of the volleyball season on Tuesday at Navarro High School.

The Lady Panthers fell in their first match to Pieper, 25-17, 27-25, 25-21, but rebounded to take down Victoria West in a hard fought five-set match, 25-10, 22-25, 25-18, 13-25, 15-10. Navarro head coach Paige Poth talked about the victory over Victoria West following the match.

“I loved how we battled back up against them,” Poth said. “Victoria West had some strengths and it challenged our defense a lot. I’m very proud of how we adjusted to that. And we had a tough set on sets two and four and I’m proud how we came out in the fifth set and competed and wanted to win and took the win.”

Navarro (2-1) beat two out of three Class 5A opponents over the the first two days of the season after knocking off Seguin on the road on Monday night. The Lady Panthers took down the Lady Matadors in straight sets at Goldie Harris Gym.

Navarro will next play in the Hondo Tournament starting on Thursday and Poth says they will see some 3A and 4A opponents in the tourney. The tournament runs through Saturday at Hondo High School.

The District 27-4A season gets underway for Navarro on Tuesday, September 12th with a home match against Fredericksburg. The Lady Billies finished third in the district last year behind Wimberley and district champion Davenport. Davenport went undefeated in district play last season.

The Lady Panthers finished fourth in district last year. Navarro had 18 wins overall in 2022.
