Mission man charged with two counts of smuggling

(Seguin) – A traffic stop on Interstate 10 has led to the arrest of a man charged with smuggling undocumented immigrants through Guadalupe County.

Seguin Police say at approximately 4:15 p.m. Thursday, an officer with the Seguin Police Department Criminal Apprehension and Street Enforcement Unit (C.A.S.E) conducted the traffic stop on a Ford F-250 for a defective stop lamp. The vehicle was headed eastbound near the 615-mile marker.

Upon making contact with the driver, Seguin PD officials say the officer observed two additional passengers in the vehicle. After further investigation, it was discovered that the two additional passengers in the vehicles were undocumented immigrants. They included a 19-year-old male and an 18-year-old female.

The undocumented immigrants claimed to be citizens of Honduras and El Salvador. The two undocumented immigrants were transported and left in custody with the U.S. Border Patrol.

The driver, identified as Domingo Mena Jr., 71, Mission, was taken into custody, and charged with two counts of smuggling of persons.

Mena was transported and booked into the Guadalupe County Jail.
