Legally Blonde opens tonight at the Texas

(Seguin) – It’s time to bend and snap, Seguin! Legally Blonde, presented by Camp Broadway, opens at the Texas Theatre tonight. Fans of the film by the same title starring Reese Witherspoon are sure to enjoy a night of girl power decked in shades of pink.

Camp Coordinator Sheila Lucas shared that after a long stint of Disney shows, it was time for a change this year, and that’s how Legally Blonde was chosen.

“We had so many beautiful, precious little girls that I wanted to see in pink,” Lucas said. “Audiences will be entertained. They will see things that amuse and surprise them. They amuse us every day, and surprise us every day, but that’s live theatre. That’s what it’s all about.”

Thirteen-year-old Navarro ISD student, Liv Parrish, plays the title role of Elle Woods.

“The show is about a girl who tries to follow her love, but ends up getting into being a lawyer, and it gets better at being a lawyer,” She basically finds who she is, like what’s her real calling. I sing and dance in the show a lot. It’s definitely a harder role because she’s in every scene, so it takes a lot of work.”

Soon-to-be Seguin High School freshman Caleb Pape is also starring in the show. Pape plays Emmett Forrest, a law associate who befriends Elle Woods (Parrish).

“He meets Elle and ends up helping her on her lawyer journey, and they end up falling in love at the end,” Pape said. “I like meeting all the new people here at Camp Broadway. I like the singing and dancing –– it’s fun.”

Helping bring the show to life is Seguin native Aidan Martinez. Having gone through every stage of Camp Broadway, from camp participant to counselor and now co-director, he makes it his goal to keep fun at the forefront for the kids.

“I feel like the reason the community should come see it is to show the kids –– one their support, and two –– that theatre is alive and loved in Seguin,” Martinez said. “That way they know they are at the right place and where they’re meant to be.”

Legally Blonde opens tonight at the Texas Theatre and runs all weekend with shows at 7pm Friday and Saturday, and a 2:30 matinee on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at Gift & Gourmet, Keepers, and the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce, or by visiting thetexas.org.
