(Seguin) — Smokey Joe Williams Field will host the Southwest Regional Senior Little League Baseball Tournament starting on Friday.
The tournament features seven teams from five different states. Teams representing Colorado, New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas will take the field over six days in Seguin. The teams compete in the Little League Senior Division, which comprises of boys ages 13-16 years old.
The host team is New Braunfels Little League. The team advanced to the regional tournament by defeating Cuero in the District 31 Championship last month. A team from Seguin was eliminated by New Braunfels in that tournament.
New Braunfels will play West University out of Houston in the first game of the Southwest Regional on Friday at Smokey Joe. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
Tournament Director Shelli Harborth says the tournament style is a modified double-elimination. The champion of a winner’s bracket will face the champion of a loser’s bracket to determine the winner of the tournament.
Harborth says all the teams will be in attendance for Saturday morning opening ceremonies.
“We will have opening ceremonies on Saturday at 10 o’clock and all the teams should be there.”
Tickets are $5 for one-day or $15 wristbands can be purchased for the entire tournament. Harborth says they plan to have plenty of food and drinks for visitors to the tournament.
“We do have several food trucks coming in,” Harborth said. “We’ll have different ones at different times of the evening and then a couple of vendors are coming too.”
The New Braunfels/West University game will get the tournament started on Friday at 5 o’clock. The tournament will conclude with the championship game on Wednesday, July 26th at 6 p.m.
The winner of the championship game will advance to the Senior League Baseball World Series in Easley, South Carolina. The World Series takes place July 29th through August 5th.
All games for the Southwest Regional Senior Little League Baseball Tournament will be held at Smokey Joe Williams Field at 950 S. Austin Street in Seguin. You can find game schedules and results at the tournament website.
