Parents encouraged to check list before buying
(Seguin) – Before you drop those notebooks and packs of pencils into your shopping cart, you might want to do a little double checking at your child’s school. That’s because the different Seguin ISD schools this year will be issuing their own respective list of school supplies.
That’s according to Sean Hoffmann, the chief communications officer for the Seguin ISD.
“Each campus has different needs, and we feel that with the principals working with their teaching staff to find out what works best at their school as far as supplies go, that’s where that change came from – basically to help our teachers ensure that their students are well supplied based upon what is going on at that particular campus,” said Hoffmann.
For years, parents have checked off supplies using one basic school supply list. Hoffmann says not only does the campus get to ensure the right supplies for their students, but it keeps parents from spending money on supplies that will never be used.
“I think it’s important as well that we were diligent about asking our principals to basically scrub the list. Go through and make sure there are not any extras. Look at some of the more historically expensive items. Make sure those are needed. If they can be reduced, reduce the number, the quantity so that we can help our families as much as possible to keep the cost down. The lists have been looked at, evaluated and we’ve reduced either items or number of items on the list to help keep that cost more friendly,” said Hoffmann.
Individual school supply lists are now avaible for not only each elementary school but also for both middle schools and high school. Parents are asked to check their child’s school website or social media page for their specific list of school supplies.
