(Elizabeth, KY) — Moira Sharp, the eight-year-old Seguin girl Little League baseball player who was looking to play with an all-girls team in a tournament, has made it to Kentucky for the Baseball For All Nationals tournament.
Last month we told you about Moira, or MoMo as she prefers to be called, in her and her mother’s effort to make the trip to Elizabeth, Kentucky to play with the 10-Under Philly Girls Baseball team. Well thanks to local donations, MoMo is at the tournament which starts today and she’s ready to play. The tournament runs through this Sunday.
Moira is a catcher for the Rivercats little league boys baseball team in Seguin. She was offered a roster spot to play with the 10-Under Philly Girls Baseball team. The team is based in Philadelphia, but extends player invitations to girls all over the country.
Her mother Susann Whitecotton contacted the organization Baseball for All and they put her and MoMo in contact with the East Coast based all-girls 10 and under team. Whitecotton says her daughter prefers to play baseball as opposed to softball unlike most girls her age. She says as her daughter has gotten older, she has expressed more interest in playing on a all-girls team. And MoMo be doing exactly that this week.
Moira is a fan of the Seguin River Monsters. She just completed 2nd grade at Weinert Elementary. She is an A-student with her favorite subject being math. MoMo is a Brownie Girl Scout. She is a member of Troop 1450. She is also a competitive dancer for Operation Dance at Second Story Dance and Company.
