SUWANEE, GA — Texas Lutheran softball’s Bailey Hudgeons (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) has been named one of five finalists for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Woman of the Year award.

The award recognizes the conference’s senior female student-athlete who has best distinguished herself throughout her collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence and service and leadership. Past Winners

Member schools were permitted to submit two nominations if at least one of the nominees was a woman of color or international student-athlete.

To be nominated, student-athletes must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in her primary sport by the end of the 2023 spring season, received her undergraduate degree prior to the conclusion of the summer 2023 term and had a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.500 (4.000 scale) with the noted exception due to COVID-19 pandemic. A student-athlete who received an extension waiver or a season of competition/participation waiver in her primary sport due to cancellation of a 2020 and/or 2021 athletics season or championship may be nominated for the 2023 Woman of the Year, provided she otherwise satisfies nomination criteria.

Bailey Hudgeons graduated this spring with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and 3.45 GPA. Hudgeons finished her athletic career with a season that saw her finish second on the Bulldogs softball team in RBIs with 38 and finish as a SCAC regular season champion for the fourth time in her career. Hudgeons would be named All-SCAC Second Team and would earn a place on the 2023 Marshall Regional All-Tournament Team.

The native of Dripping Springs, Texas, is departing Texas Lutheran as a four-time SCAC regular season champion, three-time SCAC Tournament champion, a four-time SCAC Academic Honor Roll nominee, and a three-time All-SCAC honoree. Hudgeons is a member of a TLU Softball senior class that finished with a career record of 140-21, claiming NCAA Runner-Up in 2021 and a national third place finish in 2022.

Off the field, Hudgeons has been a consistent member of the TLU Dean’s list, recipient of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) Impact Leader Award in 2023, and the TLU Distinguished Student Leader Award in 2022. Hudgeons served in leadership for NSLS – acting as President from 2021-2023, was a member of the Black and Gold President’s Council, was a Peer Mentor all while participating in community service and being an active member of the TLU Treble Choir during her time as a student at Texas Lutheran.

The 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Woman of the Year will be announced on July 12th.
