Seguin Mayor announces this year’s parade marshals

(Seguin) – One of Seguin’s most patriotic groups will be leading the charge down Austin Street for this year’s Biggest Small Town Fourth of July Parade in Texas.

Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen is happy to announce that the Guadalupe Valley Young Marines have been chosen to lead this year’s parade as grand marshals.

“Since 2009, the Guadalupe Valley Young Marines have been a very visible and active unit in both the Seguin and Guadalupe County communities,” said Mayor Dodgen. “Under the leadership of Unit Commander Dina Dillon, this patriotic group of exceptional young people makes a positive impact on the community in many ways. The unit is often seen presenting flags, lending a hand to a community service project, placing flags on graves of veterans, and perhaps most importantly, spreading awareness about drug education and encouraging a drug-free lifestyle.”

Dodgen says in selecting a parade marshal, she always works to highlight those who have our future – and says this group is an amazing example.

Earlier this year, Guadalupe Valley Young Marines was awarded “Division 4 Unit of the Year,” the top honor for all divisions in a nine-state area for the unit’s community service, program achievement and dedication to the mission.

In 2022, the unit received the prestigious national award, the Fulcrum Shield, awarded by the Department of Defense for their Red Ribbon Week efforts (drug prevention and resistance) in the community.

This year’s parade begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday with the annual flag raising ceremony in Central Park. Music, speakers plus pomp and circumstance will highlight the significance of the day.

Thousands of flag-waving people will then line Austin Street for the annual parade at 10 a.m. Tuesday. City officials say past crowd estimates have exceeded 10,000. This year’s parade will feature more than 100 entries including floats from local businesses, elected officials, churches, schools, military representatives, and more.

In preparation for the parade, the City of Seguin asks parade attendees to not block parade route sidewalks with chairs and other items until the morning of the event. To allow for the best parade viewing experience, drivers are also asked not to park along the parade route, which includes Austin Street from East College to Nelda Street.
