SEGUIN, Texas — Gerrit Twitero (McQueeney/Seguin) was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Men’s Field Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
This is the third time TLU has taken home the SCAC Male Field Athlete of the Year award, the first time since 2019, and the ninth total SCAC yearly award for TLU Men’s track and field since joining the conference in 2014.
The McQueeney, Texas native and Seguin High School grad earned First Team All-SCAC after he won gold at the 2023 SCAC Track and Field Championships in the high jump. Twitero won the high jump with a school record mark of 2.05m to go back-to-back after winning the event with a 1.97m mark last season. The mark is the second highest in SCAC Championship history, only trailing Rhodes College’s Tim Barkley (2.10m, 1999).
Twitero continued his impressive 2023 season by scaling to the top of the NCAA Division-III men’s high jump qualifier list the following week with a record-setting 2.10m jump at the Tom Tellez Invitational in May.
Twitero, the program record holder in both the indoor and outdoor high jump, qualified for the NCAA National Championships in both the 2023 Indoor and Outdoor seasons – earning All-America status in the outdoor high jump as well as USTFCCCA West Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year. Twitero capped his historic season by becoming the first All-American in the high jump in TLU’s NCAA history and earned the highest national finish in the high jump in school history with his fourth place finish.
