(Seguin) — The Seguin River Monsters season is less than a week away.
The River Monsters will open their season on Tuesday, May 30th at Smokey Joe Williams Field against the Brazos Valley Bombers.
Seguin will compete in the Texas Collegiate League once again for their second season. The summer league is comprised of five teams. The River Monsters will compete with the likes of the defending champion Acadiana Cane Cutters from Lafayette, Louisiana, the Bombers of Bryan, the Baton Rouge Rougarou, and the Victoria, Texas Generals.
In all, the River Monsters will play 15 home games in June and nine in July. The schedule is highlighted by seven Friday and Saturday night home games.
The River Monsters have a new coach this year. Tony Perez will begin his first year in Seguin. Perez is from Midland, Texas. He played collegiate ball at New Mexico Junior College and Arkansas-Little Rock before finishing his college career at Lubbock Christian University. Perez also played professional ball in Mexico.
In his coaching career, Perez has coached on the high school and junior college level. He coached in the Great Lakes League before accepting the River Monsters head coaching job in Seguin last fall. Perez is also the current coach at New Braunfels Christian Academy.
The River Monsters start their season with a home-and-home with Brazos Valley on May 30th and 31st before they head to Baton Rouge on June 1st. They will head to Lafayette on June 2nd before coming back home to Seguin on Saturday, June 3rd to play Acadiana.
The River Monsters’ home opener against the Brazos Valley Bombers is set for 7:05 p.m. this coming Tuesday night at Smokey Joe.
