(Marion) – Marion High School’s Owen Schoenvogel was named the District MVP, his younger brother Huck was named Newcomer of the Year, and Kade Pape and Evan Gibbons were voted the Offensive and Defensive MVP’s respectively to headline a group of 11 Bulldogs who received post-season baseball accolades in District 26-3A.
The District MVP Schoenvogel, a senior leader on the Marion pitching staff, tossed a no-hitter in a 10-0 win for the Marion Bulldogs over Randolph on April 3rd. Pape, a shortstop, and the younger Schoenvogel, a first baseman, were freshman on a young Marion squad. Gibbons is a junior who will be back behind the backstop at catcher for the Bulldogs next year.
Marion’s All-District First Team honorees include senior infielders Gage Rodgers and Ty Karr, junior outfielders Chase Hallmark and Jaxon Garner along with senior outfielder Dominic Castellanos, and junior utility player Shayne Whipple.
Senior outfielder Dylan Quidachay landed on the All-District Second Team.
Marion head coach Tim Tesch along with his assistants Rhett Bohannon and Tommy Bennett were recognized as the District Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Bulldogs were the champions of District 26-3A, going undefeated once again during the district season. Marion has won 35 straight district games and has not lost a game in district play since 2019. The Bulldogs advanced to UIL Class 3A Region IV Area round and finished the 2023 season with a overall record of 19-8 in Tesch’s 9th year at the helm.
