(Geronimo) — Navarro senior Samantha Mundine was voted District 28-4A Offensive Most Valuable Player by the district’s softball head coaches this week.

Mundine, who played 3rd base and batted clean-up for the Lady Panthers, hit .610 with 52 hits, a home run, 11 doubles, seven triples, 45 RBI, and 44 runs scored. Mundine had 14 stolen bases in 15 attempts. And she did not strike out all season.

Among Navarro’s First Team All-District selections were senior pitcher Samantha Wegman, freshman catcher Shelbie Stevens, junior Kaislynn Tovar and sophomore Sarah Falor in the infield, freshman Cadee Zimmer in the outfield and sophomore designated hitter Reagan Herrera.

Wegman pitched 78 innings in 19 games with nine starts this spring. She struck out 48 and had a 4.12 ERA while opponents hit just .284 against her. Her battery-mate Stevens only made one error all season while hitting .398 at the plate with three home runs and 27 RBI.

Tovar was a .396 hitter who slugged six home runs, driving in 49 while scoring 46 on the season. Falor posted a .500 average, scored 54 runs and was a perfect 15-for15 in stolen base attempts. Zimmer made the first team as a freshman center fielder. She batted .396 with 40 runs scored and 19 stolen bases. Herrera had a .407 average with 12 doubles and 23 RBI.

Senior infielder Carlie Pitner along with junior outfielder Arianna Rodriguez earned All-District Second Team accolades for the Lady Panthers. And Madison Gilliam was named an Honorable Mention.

Navarro went 22-13 for first-year head coach Morgan Cavazos in 2023. The Lady Panthers were the Co-Champions of District 28-4A, and advanced to the Bi-District round of the UIL playoffs.
