(Austin) — Several area high school athletes will compete at the UIL State Track & Field meet starting Thursday in Austin.

Seguin High School’s Daisha Shular will compete in 100 meter dash. Shular set meet records twice at the Class 5A Region IV meet in San Antonio two weeks ago. She ran a personal best time of 11.44, which broke her own meet record of 11.69 set on the first day of the regional meet. The record had stood for 19 years.

Daisha will join her sister Ari along with Leah Brown and Kyra Nunez in the girls 4X100 meter relay at the state meet. All four won gold at regionals with a time of 47.46.

For the boys, Seguin’s Devin Matthews, Nik Henry, Ocean Moreno, & Elliot Weaver will compete in the 4X100 meter relay. The foursome placed 2nd at the regional meet.

Christian Ramirez will represent Seguin High School in three events: the wheel chair shot put, the wheel chair 100 meter dash and the wheelchair 400 meter dash. Ramirez won the shot put and the 400 at regionals. He finished second in the 100.

Two Marion High School track & field athletes will also be in Austin.

Maggie Rudisaile took home gold in girls pole vault at the Class 3A Region IV meet in Seguin and will compete at the state meet. Rudisaile’s teammate Sarah Cook finished 2nd in the girls shot put at regionals and will also be at the state meet. Cook twice established new Marion High School girls shot put records at the meet.

The state track meet takes place Thursday through Saturday at Myers Track & Soccer Stadium in Austin.
