IRVING, Texas — The Texas Lutheran pitching staff combined for their second shutout of the season to lead TLU to a 6-0 victory and series sweep of Dallas Sunday afternoon at UD Baseball Field.
Joe Burch (Geronimo/Navarro), making his first appearance in a month due to injury, got the start for the Bulldogs allowing just three hits and striking out three in three shutout innings. Keene Kreusler (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) got the win in relief, allowing four hits and walking two batters while striking out four in four innings of work.
After an offensive onslaught on Saturday, the Bulldogs’ bats were held in check for the first two innings before coming alive in the third inning.
After loading the bases to start the inning, Blake Cappadona (Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill) would drive in two runs with a two-RBI single to left field to give TLU a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs, who scored 18 runs with two outs in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader, added two more runs with two outs in the fourth inning with another two-RBI single from Cappadona – doubling their lead to 4-0.
Texas Lutheran struck again in the top of the ninth to add two more insurance runs as Holden Philippus (San Antonio/San Antonio Christian) drove in two runs with a one-out single to bring the game to its final score of 6-0.
Riley Backs (Cypress/Cypress Falls) and Zach Longshore (Richmond/Ft. Bend Travis) each pitched a shutout inning in relief to close the game.
Texas Lutheran is back at Katt-Isbel Field on Tuesday to start the final homestand of the season with a midweek matchup against the McMurry War Hawks on Tuesday, April 25. First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
