There was lots of baseball and softball for area high school teams on Tuesday night.
(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs fell at home to Nixon-Smiley 8-7 in 10 innings on Tuesday night.
Down 4-1 in the 6th inning, Marion rallied for 5 runs to take a 6-4 lead, but the Lady Mustangs would score two in the top of the 7th to send the game to extra innings. Both teams would score runs in the 9th before Nixon-Smiley plated the final run of the game in the top of the 10th.
Kira Jones pitched all ten innings for the Lady Bulldogs. She also smacked a home run to start the Marion rally in the 6th.
Layla Hernandez was stellar in center field for Marion as she made two great plays on line shots including a diving catch to save a run in the top of the 8th inning. She also had two assists on the night including a gun down of a Lady Mustang runner at the plate.
The win by Nixon-Smiley puts them in first place in District 26-3A at 5-1. The Lady Bulldogs fell to second place at 4-2.
The Marion softball team is at Luling on Friday.
(Marion) — The Marion Bulldog baseball team took down Nixon Smiley 7-1 at Marion High School on Tuesday to remain unbeaten in District 26-3A at 7-0.
Owen Schoenvogel went 6 innings on the bump striking out nine to get the win. Schoenvogel also drove in two runs at the plate. Kade Pape had two hits and two RBI for the Bulldogs.
Marion is at Luling on Friday.
(San Antonio) — Veterans Memorial rallied for four runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to slip past the Seguin Matadors 10-9 at Veterans Memorial High School.
Down 10-7 in the top of the 7th inning, Kayden Holz doubled home two runs with two outs, but the Mats were unable to send the game to the bottom of the inning. Landon Trost went 4 for 5 with with a double and two RBI for the Matadors.
Seguin and Veterans Memorial will play again on Friday night at Smokey Joe and you’ll hear that game on KWED.
(San Antonio) — The Lady Matadors improved to 8-3 in District 26-5A with a 12-1 run-rule victory at Veterans Memorial on Tuesday night.
Chloe Belicek, Camryn Rios and Graylyn Salazar all had three hits on the night for Seguin. The Lady Mats are one game behind 2nd place Smithson Valley in the district standings.
Seguin will host Veterans Memorial on Friday night at Seguin High School.
(San Antonio) — The Navarro Panther baseball team picked up a road win at San Antonio Kennedy, blasting the Rockets 10-3 Tuesday night.
Landun Taylor was 3 for 3 from the lead-off spot with three runs scored and two RBI for the Panthers. Blaine Pircher went the distance on the hill striking out four and allowing just one earned run in getting the complete game victory.
The loss by the Rockets was their first in District 28-4A. The Panthers are 3-2 in district trailing the Rockets and the La Vernia Bears, who are both 4-1.
Navarro will host Kennedy on Friday night in Geronimo.
(Geronimo) — The Lady Panther softball team romped over Kennedy 19-7 on Tuesday night at Navarro High School.
Navarro scored 13 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to run away with the victory. Kaislynn Tovar homered and drove in three runs in a 3 for 3 night at the plate for the Lady Panthers. Carlie Pitner was 4 for 4 with two doubles and a triple for Navarro.
The Lady Panthers are 7-0 in district and will head to Gonzales on Friday night.
