(Seguin) — The Seguin Public Library is apparently the place to be on Saturdays. Hannah Farmer, the youth service manager at the local library, says activities for kids of all ages continue this Saturday with a pair of monthly events. She says the first is for younger children ages 3 to 11.
“This Saturday at 11, we are doing a Sound & Music Story Time. So, I’m going to bring out my ukulele. We are going to bring out musical instruments for the kiddos and we will read stories having to do with music and play games like call and repeat type games with instruments and they will even get to make their own little musical instrument crafts. So, just celebrating all things music and reading stories about those things. Again, it’s ages 3-11. The little kids can have fun but I think the stories will really appeal to the older kids. Everybody loves music so why not?” said Farmer.
On the other end of the library will be another event for teens, ages 12 to 18. Farmer says the event is dubbed “Teens” Cookies, Coffee And Games!”
“From 2 to 4, we will be in the large meeting room playing games and enjoying cookies and coffee and hot chocolate so just a relaxing afternoon just to hang out. We will have Uno and some other classics but we will also have some new table top games that have been donated by another librarian for us to use that program and then as a library, we have some really complex games. There’s one called The Isle of Cats and Azul which are more complicated so we have a couple of hours to peruse those and learn the rules and hopefully, use them at more events especially with the summer coming up,” said Farmer.
Farmer says these scheduled events on Saturday are usually a good time for the entire family to come out to the library. She says it’s important that parents not forget how their big kids can still benefit from the ins and outs of the local library.
“Obviously, we want to promote fun educational activities for youth especially in that middle school and high school range when they are learning who they are and the library is a great place to learn things that they are interested in. We try to offer different things. This time it’s gaming. Gaming is also really great in developing critical thinking skills in a fun way where you are not tied to a desk and having to do the classroom stuff. It’s a little break from school but it’s still developing skills and they are in close proximity to the wonderful books that we have for them to check out. So hopefully, they also want to check out a book or two while they are here. They can get dropped off when they are teens. They are old enough to be here alone or the library is a great place for the family. If you’ve got younger ones too, leave the teen in the gaming events and take your little one over to read stories and play with the puzzles in the children’s section or have some me time in the patio,” said Farmer.
Both events this Saturday are free. Adult events are also scheduled weekly. Families are encouraged to visit the library’s website or Facebook page for all other upcoming events.
