Navarro Lady Panthers Fall in UIL 3rd Round, Marion Boys to Play in Bi-District Tonight on KWED

(San Antonio) — The Fredericksburg Lady Billies built a first quarter lead and slowly pulled away from the Navarro Lady Panthers in taking the UIL Class 4A Regional Quarterfinal match-up 62-41 in San Antonio on Monday night.

Fredericksburg, the 5th ranked team in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 4A poll, lead 14-6 after the first quarter and outscored Navarro in every quarter to advance to the fourth round of the playoffs. Fredericksburg used a balanced attack as three Lady Billies scored in double figures. Ella Hartmann had 17 points, Rilyn Grona had 12 and Kirsten Hartmann had 10 to pace the Fredericksburg attack.

Navarro, the 12th ranked team in the coaches poll, fell to Fredericksburg for the third time this season. The Lady Billies won both match-ups with the Lady Panthers during the District 27-4A season.

Senior Tatum Harborth, playing in her final game, lead Navarro with 21 points. Fellow senior Ryanne Hepp dropped in eight points. And senior Karlee Koenig had four points.

Three other Navarro seniors, Maddi Gilliam, Hadlee Wilson and Leah Teasley saw their high school basketball careers end last night. Senior Laylin Sturm, who was out for the season with an injury, watched the game from the Navarro bench.

Fredericksburg will play the winner of the Beeville Jones/Somerset Regional quarterfinal, which will take place tonight in Falls City.

The Lady Panthers finish their season with a 31-8 record. Navarro has reached the regional quarterfinals the last four years .

(Yoakum) — The Marion Bulldog boys will play in the UIL Bi-District round tonight against Edna at Yoakum High School. The Bulldogs were the fourth place team out of District 26-3A. The Cowboys finished the regular season as the champions of District 25-3A.
