Seguin ISD offers survey on next year's school calendar

(Seguin) — Seguin ISD families are being asked to chime in on next year’s school calendar.

There are a few options on the table, including a possible longer winter break before or after Christmas.

Families should have received an email encouraging them to complete a short survey on the 2023-24 school year calendar. A link for that survey is also available on both the Seguin ISD website or Facebook page.

The survey is not limited to only Seguin ISD families. Anyone in the community is also encouraged to have their voices heard.

Helping come up with the instructional calendar options were members of the Seguin ISD Teacher Communication Council.

It is noted that Texas public schools are required to have a minimum of 75,600 instructional minutes in a school year and a total of 187 teacher contract days.

Two calendar options are provided and explained in the survey. One of the featured differences is the time earmarked for winter break.

Calendar Sample 1 begins winter break in the Seguin ISD on Monday, Dec. 18. It then runs through Wed., Jan. 3. That provides a full week before the Christmas holiday and returns kids back to school on Friday Jan. 5

Calendar Sample 2 begins winter break in the Seguin ISD on Thursday, Dec. 21 and continues it through Friday, Jan. 5 – returning kids to school on Monday Jan. 8.

Both calendars samples also have Seguin ISD students beginning the school year on Monday, August. 14.

Postings of both calendar drafts are available in the survey. The deadline to complete the survey is this Tuesday at 5 p.m.

You can find the English language survey link here, and there’s a Spanish language link found here.
