For the first time in campus history, Southwest Preparatory School here in Seguin has awarded two of its educators with the title of Teacher of the Year. It's a tie that school officials say highlights the dedication and impact that both honorees have had on their students and the school community. Guadalupe County is being thanked for being a part of the village that is helping to protect local kids. Nicole Douglass, of CASA of Central Texas, recently thanked county leaders for their support of the local organization that "provides high-quality and best interest advocacy for children and youth in the child welfare system." That support was shown through the signing of a proclamation observing the month of April as Child Abuse Awareness & Prevention Month in Guadalupe County. READ MORE

The Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office is rolling out a new effort to help those families forced into emergency placement. The sheriff's office has launched a bag drive on behalf of the Thriving Hearts Crisis Center. Coordinating the effort is Sgt. Elaine Reamer, a long-term supporter of the center, formerly known as the Guadalupe Valley Family Violence Shelter. Reamer says through her work; she has always found it difficult when folks have had to relocate using trash bags. She says she just wants to restore dignity within these families. READ MORE
