Just in time for TAX season

Just in time for TAX season

Guadalupe County gets drive-through project update

(Seguin) – Guadalupe County’s new tax office drive-through is inching closer to operation. During Tuesday’s commissioner’s court meeting, the Koehler Company was on hand to provide the latest update for the double drive-through system being constructed on the existing building’s south side.

Wrapping up just in time for tax season, Jason Beck, the job site superintendent for the Koehler Company, says the drive-through is nearing completion and will allow the county to better handle property tax and motor vehicle business.

“We are about 95 percent complete. Once, we put the soffit panels on which would be next week and stripe – right now, that’s scheduled for the 30th, — we could be able to get moved up a little bit. Then, we will be down to just some punch items. But the two tube systems right now are ready to go. They are operational and ready to go,” said Beck.

Chiming in on the work on behalf of his constituents and staff was Daryl John, Guadalupe County tax assessor-collector. John says he wants to ensure everything is just right before giving the drive-through the green light.

“We are going to wait until construction is 100 percent and then once that’s done and we get our people trained on the equipment of how to use it, get all the computers in (and) we will be servicing the DVM also so we are waiting for the state to put in their part also — as soon as that’s done and operational, we will let you know exactly what day we will open,” said John.

Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher says it’s more than the size of the project that gets him excited. He says it’s about the benefits that it will have for all residents of Guadalupe County.

“Good job everybody. I know we’ve talked about this for a long time. The potential of possibly putting in a drive through, once we did the service center, the Riedel building (in Schertz) and saw the benefit and heard the positive feedback of that drive through access by some, I think that really spurred that conversation and let us go ‘let’s really look at this in Seguin like you said, it’s not a giant project but a huge positive impact for the people that cannot get out of their vehicle. It promotes efficiency for employees inside the department. I was worried about the trees and some of the other issues, parking and access and wider spaces — all those little things kind of add up to be kind of complicated but it’s come together beautifully. It looks really nice, and I think people are going to enjoy it and I think it’s going to work for a long time,” said Kutscher.

The project officially began in October. The county building is located at 307 W. Court Street.
