(San Antonio) — A landmark study done in Texas finds that combat-related PTSD can be cured. The research is led by Dr. Alan Peterson at the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA).
`“Our results show that about 75 percent of people had clinically significant reductions in their PTSD symptoms,” said Dr. Peterson.
Instead of therapy once a week over a series of months, veterans took leave from their work and family to devote time to treatment.
“It’s the first study to show that PTSD can be effectively treated in a three-week intensive outpatient treatment program,” said Dr. Peterson.
The intense three-week format led to more than half of participants completely losing their PTSD diagnosis.
