(San Antonio) — Four area high school athletes will be participating in the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game this Saturday at the Alamodome. The 45th anniversary of the game features the area’s top seniors playing in their final high school game.
Seguin High School will be represented by wide-out Devin Matthews and defensive lineman Jakob McLeod. The Marion Bulldogs also have two players selected for the game, wide receiver Dominic Castellanos and linebacker Kross Kelso. All four players will represent the Gold team.
The electrifying Matthews who was named District 12-5A MVP in 2022 scored 21 touchdowns for the Matadors in his senior season, 5 of those on kickoff returns to go along with 13 touchdown receptions, two rushing scores and a punt return for a TD.
McLeod, a captain on the Seguin defense, was lost for the season with an injury in the first half of the Matador’s third game against Laredo United. The senior had two sacks along with a tackle for loss in two plus games before his injury.
On Wednesday, both Matthews and McLeod received official offers to play football at Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Marion High School senior Castellanos had 1232 all purpose yards for the Bulldogs this season. He scored 15 TD’s including 2 fumble recoveries returned for scores playing at safety on defense. Castellanos also had two interceptions and was named the District 13-3A Utility Player of the Year.
Despite missing the first 5 games of the season due to injury, Kelso was a First Team All-District defensive selection. He had 53 tackles including 9 for loss and recovered two fumbles on defense for the Bulldogs this season.
Teams began practicing for the game this week. There will be two games played at the Alamodome on Saturday. The All-American Bowl, which features players from around the country, begins at noon. The San Antonio Sports All-Star Game will follow at 5 p.m.
