City's new website shines spotlight on Seguin

(Seguin) — The city of Seguin is using the new year to launch its brand new website. The city’s online presence, at seguintexas.gov, has been completely reworked by city staff.

Public Information Officer Jennifer Sourdellia says the redesign represents a major upgrade to the city’s website.  She says the public will notice many of the changes right away.

“It’s so exciting because we kicked off 2023 with our brand new redesigned website. And the reason that we did this is because our previous website was seven years old. So we felt it was high time for a fresh new website with updated features. You know technology has changed a lot from seven years ago, and so we just wanted to make sure that we got our website updated for all of our residents,” said Sourdellia.

Sourdellia says the new website gives local residents, as well as outsiders, a look at all the things that make Seguin a great place to live and work. She says there’s all kinds of information now available with just the click of a mouse.

“I’m just really proud of the way it looks. It looks so beautiful. It showcases Seguin and especially the video that we’ve got on our homepage. It captures so many facets of life in Seguin. So that I’m particularly proud of that. And our new site is designed to be very easy for our residents to navigate and quickly find the information that they need. One of the really neat features that we have now, in the drop down, you can select a language. You know we have some Spanish speakers in our community, so they can now go down to the select language menu and they can select Spanish. It will completely translate our whole entire website into Spanish for them, and there’s a lot of other different languages as well. I mean there’s dozens and dozens,” said Sourdellia.

One of the new features on the website is a short video. Sourdellia says the professional produced video, gives viewers a quick glimpse at some of the neat things that help to make Seguin unique.

“We were very fortunate that we were able to work with a local company, Blue Horizon Media. We just worked together with them to create some of the different iconic features of our communities. Some of those things that we are well known for, such as our Big Pecan, our manufacturing, (and) our parks. It was just a lot of brainstorming and working together to get all those facets together so that we could truly showcase what our community is all about,” said Sourdellia.

Sourdellia says the new website will be easy for you to navigate. She says it’s not only user friendly, but it also has some special features that will make it an even better experience for those who visit the site.

“We have tried to organize it in such a fashion that our residents will have no problem finding the information that they need quickly and efficiently. So we’ve recreated all of our mega menus to really be able to direct people aware that they need to be in a quick way. There’s also a really neat tab on our website called ‘How Do I?’ It’s up on our mega menu at the very top of the screen, and you can essentially go on that mega menu and it has a list of all sorts of different things that someone might like to find in a quick fashion. Another thing that we are going to be coming out with too pretty soon — within the next few weeks, it’s going to be an addition to our our website — is we’re going to be having a chatbot. So that’s going to be located on the website itself at the very bottom corner, and it’s like a live chat feature. So if someone comes to our website, and they you’re looking for something in particular, they can just type it into the chat bar and it will populate where they need to go on our website to find that information,” said Sourdellia.

The city announced the new website with a bit of fanfare last week. Sourdellia says they wanted to get the communities attention and let folks know that this new resource is now available. She says it was a labor of love for staff, which spent months and months on this project.

“This was a project that took about seven months…to launch, from inception to the finish line. It took a lot of staff time from different departments. Essentially every single department had a hand in this in some form or fashion. There was a representative in each department who helped me go through and make sure that all the information was updated. Things were mayve removed that we didn’t need anymore. It did take a lot from our staff to be able to to do this together. I want to thank our staff for doing that, because without them this project wouldn’t be as successful as it is today,” said Sourdellia.

The new website can be accessed using the city’s regular URL — www.seguintexas.gov.
