Keller, Davila seeking votes during today’s runoff election

Keller, Davila seeking votes during today's runoff election

(Seguin) — The race for the District 8 seat on the Seguin City Council will finally be decided tonight. Bill Keller and Edward “Eddie” Davila Jr. advanced to today’s runoff election after finishing first and second respectively during the general election held in November. Both candidates have been encouraging District 8 voters to head back to the polls to have their voices heard.

Seguin Radio KWED interviewed both candidates duruing the general election. Keller says he has the experience and commitment to serve the people of Seguin. If elected, he says he wants to be the voice of the people.

“I’ve worked with two city boards. I’ve worked with (the) Parks and Recreation (Advisory Board) and with (the) Building and Standards Commission, which I chaired both of those. So I know the inner workings of City Hall and working with city staff, and those are good people. I’ve been in Rotary Club where I was president. I was there for 39 years. I’ve done the mentor program (at Seguin Youth Services). I was Mentor of the Year one year. I really enjoyed working with the young people. (SYS Executive Director) Sheryl Sachtleben put together a wonderful program in that. I’ve been president of two different church councils and I don’t know that a lot of people can say that. I was president of St. James and also Faith Lutheran. The congregations both put their faith in me to be their president for a for a short time, and I enjoyed that, and I think…I did a good job. But I’ve done a lot of things in town. I’ve been in 20 shows — 20 stage productions. And really enjoyed the applause and the ability to work with other people and learn teamwork. The teamwork that I’ve learned and the work ethic for 25 years at CMC (Steel Texas) has been invaluable. That is one of the finest companies that I’ve ever been around, and they taught me a lot. I hope I contributed as much as I learned, but the the work ethic out there and the teamwork was absolutely invaluable. I think I can carry that over into the city council work,” said Keller.

Davila also points to his service in Seguin when asked about what makes him the right choice for the job. He says he knows how to get things done, and that he has a passion for doing what’s best for folks in Seguin.

“I believe that you’ll recognize that I am passionate about serving Seguin and the area. I believe that you’ll see that when I decide to do something that I am going to get it done, I’m going to work to get it done now. You may not always agree with me, and I may not always agree with you, but I will always do what’s right for the city of Seguin. I’ve done that in any factor that I’ve done to serve in any capacity. But I am passionate about this role that I’m about to undertake with a seat on the City Council fo Seguin. I’ve run campaigns before. I’ve run for other offices, and they always tell me don’t talk about those, but you know — you’ve got to learn how to lose before you can win. And I believe that Seguin has told me — here’s what we expect (and) here’s what we want from you. And I believe at this time, you know, gaining that seat for District 8 and earning the confidence of the voters in District 8 is what I need to do to be most effective at this time,” said Davila.

This race is only available to District 8 voters in the city of Seguin. Those voters can cast their ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at either the Silver Center on East Court Street or the Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Office on Highway 90.
