(Marion) — Seniors Sarah Cook, Signe Rabenaldt and Kaelyn Taylor all scored in double figures to lead the Marion Lady Bulldogs back from a halftime deficit to take down the Charlotte Trojanettes 60-47 in an afternoon non-district match-up at Marion High School on Tuesday.
With Charlotte ahead 23-21 after the game’s first 16 minutes, Marion needed only eight minutes in the third quarter to score 23 points of their own and take a 10 point lead heading into the final quarter.
Cook and Rabenaldt turned up the defensive intensity helping force a number of Trojanette turnovers leading to several Lady Bulldog baskets and Taylor got the hot hand with a pair of three pointers in the third period to put Marion in control of the game.
Taylor finished with 15 points while canning three of her four three point attempts. Rabenaldt was also hot from downtown finishing with 12 points all on three point makes as she shot 50 percent from beyond the arc.
Cook matched Taylor’s team high 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with some pesky defense which included five steals on the afternoon.
Following the game, Marion head coach Cassandra Robinson said she was happy with her team’s success shooting from deep and she lauded Cook’s effort on the defensive end of the court.
“She’s finally coming into her own and realizing just how important and crucial she is as a senior. (She had) eleven deflections and that just speaks volumes of her defensive effort. She did a phenomenal job today.”
Breelon Allen added eight points and three blocks for the Lady Bulldogs and Laney Osborne also poured in eight points to go with three rebounds.
Marion improved their record to 11-9 on the season with Tuesday’s victory.
