(Seguin) — There’s a new change in leadership on the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees. School board members on Tuesday voted unanimously to reorganize and select a new slate of board officers.

Serving as the new Board President is District 2 Trustee Alejandro Guerra.

Now although she still remains on the school board, former School Board President and District 3 Trustee Cinde Thomas Jimenez says while she has enjoyed serving the role for the past few years, she felt it was time to turn over the reins to someone new.

“I had asked a couple of, gosh, maybe six months or so ago, maybe it was last year at this time – I’m not sure – but if some of the trustees would consider stepping up because I just always felt that it’s not a position where one person should stay in that role for years and years and years. This time, after the election, I decided that it was definitely time for a change in leadership and so, we’ve kind of been observing Mr. Guerra. He’s really grown to be a very strong trustee and he asks a lot of really great questions. He also goes to a lot of trainings and so I think, he’s the perfect choice for the job,” said Thomas Jimenez.

As for Guerra says he is honored for the opportunity and looks forward to helping the district continue in its success.

“I’m ready for the challenge. First of all, I would like to thank Cinde Jimenez for serving as the board president for the last six years. The district has gone through a lot of positive changes, and she’s played a vital role in the process. I would also like to thank the trustees for giving me a vote of confidence to serve on the board,” said Guerra.

Guerra says he already starts this new job with plenty of things on the table.

“The things that are coming up, that are going to be important to us – thanks to the community for approving the Bonds 2022 and we will be moving forward with that by starting a bond oversight committee. Of course, on top of the bond list, includes safety and security and of course, the construction of the new McQueeney Elementary School, renovations at Barnes Middle School and various other campus projects. The Strategic Plan 2025 is also going to be important to us as a board and we get monthly updates during the meetings from both middle schools as part of the System of Great Schools,” said Guerra.

Re-elected as Vice-President is Trustee District 1 Carl Jenkins. Trustees also named District 4 Trustee Linda Duncan as its new board secretary. She replaces former Trustee Glenda Moreno who was unable to hold on to her seat during the November election.

Also serving is Denise Crettenden, District 5, Ben Amador, District 6 and Joshua Bright, District 7, who was elected on Nov. 8.

In August, the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees was awarded Texas Region 20 School Board of the Year for 2022.
