(Seguin) – An area car dealership has stepped up big to ensure that food is on the table for local families and that kids get that special something under the Christmas tree.
In its quest to support Seguin Radio KWED during its annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive, Steele Hyundai New Braunfels not only donated a pair of vehicles to help collect the items during the Dec. 2 event outside the radio station, but it challenged the Seguin community to fill each of the vehicles in exchange for a $1,000 check to both the Seguin Police Department Blue Santa Program and Seguin’s food pantry, the Christian Cupboard.
The $2,000 donation is a welcomed gift especially during a year when giving has been limited and financial hardships and other challenges are being experienced by so many.
Nonetheless, this donation, according to KWED General Manager Darren Dunn, reaffirms the intentions and support of businesses like Steele Hyundai to be there not only for their customers but the communities that they live in.
This year’s drive collected a Hyundai full of 600 pounds of non-perishable food and a second Hyundai full of toys. A portion of a box truck donated by Buddy’s rental was also halfway full of toys. Businesses like Diamond Air also donated the use of its company vehicle to ensure that KWED had the means to deliver all collected donations to both Blue Santa’s headquarters and to the Christian Cupboard.
KWED’s annual food and toy drive is made possible by folks like Steele Hyundai and another business partners who year after year give both cash and in-kind donations to help make the event a success.
